2CC23.0000.0032artworks (art)Ghost Forests, Digital media/photographyJohn HoovenArtist statement: The photos represent the Chesapeake forests dying from sea level rise in the Fairmount/Rumbley area. These forest islands are remnants of the forests that once occupied areas of what are now marsh. Just as these forests are dying, the towns in the area are also threatened by sea level rise. Projections are for approximately one-third of Somerset County to be underwater by 2050. These pictures illustrate this tragedy, and the elements of the changing climate and warmer temperatures are emphasized by the embellished evening twilight colors.

John Hooven
Fruitland, MarylandCBMM catalog imageView
